本年度美國紐約秋拍，先由佳士得印象派及現代藝術晚拍打頭陣，惟反應未如理想。全場總成交額（佣金計算在內）US$2.79億（HK$21.7億；NT$84億），未及US$3.05億總估價（不計佣金在內）。包括領銜作梵高《有繁花與蝴蝶的花園一角》在內，共有九幅作品流拍，不少焦點拍品也低於估價落槌。是買家出價太謹慎？還是行方估價太進取？
梵高《有繁花與蝴蝶的花園一角》
拍賣官以US$2,800萬下槌
莫內《睡蓮池》

以莫內2米 x 1米鉅作《睡蓮池》為例，估價US$3,000 - 5,000萬。拍賣官於US$2,000萬起拍，經九口叫價後，以US$2,800萬下槌，未達估價。買家為印象派及現代藝術部資深總監何杏淇的電話客戶，連佣成交價US$3,180萬（HK$2.4億；NT$9.6億），屬全場最高價。
莫內《吉維尼花園的女孩》
佳士得亞洲區總裁魏蔚
莫內繪畫夏季吉維尼（Giverny）花園的《吉維尼花園的女孩》，則以US$1,400萬下槌，同樣低於估價（US$1,500萬 - 2,500萬）。此畫由亞洲區總裁魏蔚（Rebecca Wei）的客戶投得，連佣成交價US$1,600萬（HK$1.2億；NT$4.8億）。
莫內畫作已屬全場反應最佳，成交五強當中佔了三席，行方新聞稿亦以此為題。但實際上，場內六幅莫內畫作，三幅低於估價下槌，一幅流拍。幸有《吉維尼雪景》一畫帶動場內氣氛。

電話競投氣氛熱烈
畫作最終由Max Carter（舉手者）替客戶投得
此畫以US$380萬起拍，競投氣氛熱烈，六名買家投過電話委託出價，價錢推高至US$1,000萬才稍為減慢。此刻剩下佳士得紐約印象派及現代藝術部門主管Max Carter和佳士得倫敦資深國際總監Jay Vincze的客戶繼續競價。畫作最終由Max Carter投得，槌價US$1,350萬，接近估價3倍，連佣成交價為US$1,550萬。
另一位大師畢加索的成績未算突出。兩幅同樣以情婦瑪麗-德雷莎・華特（Marie-Therese Walter）為主題的畫作，估價皆過千萬美元。繪於1931年的《燈》以US$2,600萬僅過估價下槌，連佣成交價US$2,950萬，全場第二高。而繪於1937年的《戴橘色貝雷帽及穿毛領的女人（瑪麗‧特雷斯）》則流拍收場。

在拍賣現場的畢加索孫兒奧利維爾（Olivier Widmaier Picasso）認為，祖父畫作的成交價「合理」，指行方估價「強硬」，而買家們明瞭這點。他形容，人們十分謹慎，雖然願意花錢，但絕非故亂出價亂花錢那種。拍賣反應未如理想，自然惹人思考，是否因包括中國買家在內的亞洲買家銀根短缺，勒緊褲頭所致。
同樣在場的紐約私人藝術經紀David Norman認為，今季亞洲買家不如以往季度般，瘋搶高價拍品。行方透露，全場共有12件拍品由包括中國在內的亞洲買家投得。價錢最高的兩幅莫內畫作，皆由佳士得香港高層的客戶投得，背後很大機會是亞洲藏家。
